The Assam government has enhanced the annual income limit of parents of students eligible for an admission fee waiver scheme. In an office memorandum, the joint secretary, Assam higher education department stated that the annual income of parents of students availing the fee waiver scheme has
been raised from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
Earlier this year, the state finance minister, while presenting the annual budget for the financial year
2019-20, had announced the provision of a fee waiver for students whose parents’
annual income is less than Rs 1 lakh.
The scheme does not cover private colleges, private universities and central universities situated
in Assam. Students whose parent/parents are working in government, semi-government, state or central
government undertakings will not be eligible under the scheme.
The fee to be waived under the scheme include first-year admissions to HS, BA/B.Sc/B.Com and MA, M.Sc and
M.Com sessions for 2019-20, second/third-year degree admissions for those admitted with no fee during 2017-2018 and 2018-19 and final year admissions for MA, M.Sc, and M.Com for those admitted with no fee during 2018-19.
