Borussia Dortmund beat Frankfurt to lift 2016-17 German Cup

Borussia Dortmund on 27 May 2017 defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in the German Cup final held at the Olympiastadion, Berlin.Borussia Dortmund had already earned automatic qualification for the group stage of the 2017–18 edition of the UEFA Champions League through position in the Bundesliga, Germany’s premier football competition.Borussia Dortmund is a German sports club based in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia.It is a part of a large membership-based sports club with more than 145000 members, making it the second largest sports club by membership in Germany.The team plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system.It is one of the most successful clubs in German football history.The football team was founded in 1909 by eighteen football players from Dortmund.The team has won eight German championships, four DFB-Pokals, five DFL-Supercups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and one Intercontinental Cup., is a German knockout football cup competition held annually.Sixty-four teams participate in the competition, including all clubs from the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga.Christian Pulisic drew a penalty in the 67th minute and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tucked away the spot kick to secure the victory in what may have been the striker’s final game for the club after he reportedly handed in a transfer request this week.But Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky brought down Pulisic to concede a penalty, and Aubameyang, who’d had a quiet game to that point, cheekily scored the winner with a chipped effort down the middle.Frankfurt brought on Alexander Meier for a defender in response but he was unable to get the side out of the jam, giving Dortmund the title at the fourth attempt after losing the previous three finals.
