Indian archers win 3 gold, 2 bronze medals in Asia Cup

India has bagged four medals in the Asia Cup World Archery Ranking Tournament Stage 3 in Taipei. The feat comprised 3 silver medals and a bronze. India also finished joint third with Iran in the championship. Korea topped the tally with 14 medals, 8 of them being gold. Taipei bagged 5 medals, two of them being gold. The event concluded in two days to avoid the incoming super typhoon Maria.

On a concluding day, recurve men’s team added a second silver before Divya Dhayal clinched a third silver in the compound individual category. Divya, who got a sixth seeding, pipped Korean third seed Yun Soon Song in the shoot-off. In the second round, she had it easy against Thailand’s ThaKanayee Maneesombatkul winning 144-141. However, she fell at the final hurdle with local favorite Ting-Ting Wu prevailing 144-141.

On the other side, women’s recurve team defeated its opponents from Japan 6-2 in the evening session to win the bronze playoff. On the first day of a tournament, the Indian duo of Shukmani Babrekar and Ridhi clinched silver medal after losing to the Korean mix-doubles pair. India ended their campaign behind toppers Korea and hosts Chinese Taipei.
