India’s 1st GI store launched at Goa International Airport

The Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu launched India’s first Geographical Indication (GI) store at Dabolim International Airport in Goa. The GI store has been set up by the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) for promoting the GI products from India in order to enhance its market ability & sale ability.

The store will display and sell original and authentic products recognized as GIs under the Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999. GIs reflect our rich cultural heritage and also have the potential to strengthen our economy as a whole, especially the incomes of our rural farmers and artisans producing these GI products.

That DIPP has been proactively taking measures to spread awareness about authentic GI products of India, including the recently launched GI logo & tagline. He further stated that Government of India is also looking to open GI stores at airports across the country.
