The 5-day Congress which is being held in the Manipur University, will see the participation of over 5000 delegates comprising of scientists, scholars and corporate officials from different parts of the country and abroad.
Notable among those addressing the congress is Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus. Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Harshvardhan will also address the Congress.
This is 2nd time the Science Congress is being held in the north east. Earlier it was held at Shillong in 2009.
This year the theme is Reaching the Unreached through Science & Technology. Scientists from across the world will look at bridging the Gap through Innovations. The thrust will be on science disciplines which impact society and sustainable development.
The recurring theme of every session of the Indian Science Congress, since 2014 has been development. The theme in 2017 was Science & Technology for National Development, the year before that it was Science & Technology for Indigenous Development, in 2015 it was Science and Technology for Human Development and in 2014 it was Innovations in Science for Inclusive Development.
Late Stephen Hawking the world renowned Physicist who passed away earlier this week, had once said, ‘The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.’ And events like the Indian Science Congress act as catalysts in busting the illusion of knowledge.
