Prime Minister Narendra Modi 15 August 2018 announced the launch of world’s largest government-funded programme – the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan. It will be launched on the birth anniversary of Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay on 25th of next month. Announcing this from the ramparts of historic Red Fort after unfurling the tricolor on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day, Mr. Modi said, it is high time to ensure that the poor get access to good quality and affordable health care.
The healthcare initiative will have a positive impact on 50 crore Indians under Ayushman Bharat. The Prime Minister informed that the government has decided to provide five lakh rupees health care insurance coverage for the poor and vulnerable under the programme and in future, it can be extended to the low middle class. Mr. Modi said, it is essential to ensure that poor people are free from the clutches of poverty due to which they cannot afford healthcare.
Ayushman Bharat, CEO Indu Bhushan has said, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan under Ayushman Bharat is ready to be rolled out on 25th of next month. Talking to AIR, Mr. Bhushan said, 29 states and UTs are on board so far, while seven states and UTs such as Delhi, Kerala, Odisha, and Punjab are yet to give approval for implementation of the scheme.
