Women’s hockey coach Marijne shifts to men’s team

Dutchman Waltherus Norbertus Marijne, also known as Sjoerd Marijne, was on 08 September 2017 announced as new coach of the India’s senior men’s team by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. Interestingly, Marijne is the present coach of Indian women’s team on tour in Europe and will be shifted to a new role, while Junior World Cup winning-coach Harendra Singh takes over from him.

Also, Harendra came on record to say that he is ready to take over from Roelant Oltmans, who was asked to step down by Hockey India last Saturday. However, he will now be taking over the reins of women’s team. It has been learnt that both the appointments have been made until the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

The Joint Committee Meeting of SAI and HI held at SAI, here on 7 th September 2017 appointed Shri Harendra Singh, Dronacharya Awardee, Hockey Coach as High Performance Specialist Coach for Indian Senior Women Hockey Team. This decision has been taken jointly by SAI and Hockey Indiaon the basis of recent and past performance of Shri Harendra Singh,” said a media release of the Press Information Bureau (PIB). It has also been decided in the meeting that, the present Chief Coach of India senior women Hockey Team, Mr. Waltherus Norbertus Maria Marijne will take over as Chief Coach of Indian Senior Men
