Top Cabinet Approvals: 10 August 2018

The Union Cabinet approved the extension of the term of the Commission to examine the issue of Sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes in the Central List till November 2018. The Commission has held extensive meetings with the stakeholders including the State Governments, the State Backward Classes Commissions, various community associations and general public belonging to Backward Classes and Commissions.

The Union Cabinet approved the signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Indonesia on health cooperation. A Working Group will be set up to further elaborate the details of cooperation and to oversee the implementation of this MoU. The MoU covers research and development, active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and IT-based medical equipment; human resource development; and health services.

The Union Cabinet approved the creation of two posts equivalent to Joint Secretary Level in the Interpreters’ cadre of the Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This measure would be important in addressing the increasing requirements for interpretation in the backdrop of significantly enhanced high-level bilateral and multilateral engagements of government.

The Union Cabinet approved the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada). The MoU envisages arrangements for reciprocal membership that will apply to the respective members of both the Institutes subject to specified criteria. The MoU also includes further collaboration on the definition, learning, and evaluation of the professional qualities and skills and competencies of entry-level Chartered Accountants.

The Union Cabinet approved to transfer the Central Hospital at Karma, Jharkhand along with its land and building to the Jharkhand Government at free of cost to establish a new Medical College under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS). Till now, the hospital was under the scrutiny of the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment. A MoU will be signed between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and the State Government outlining the modalities including transfer/absorption of Staff etc.
