Top Cabinet Approvals : 27 March 2019

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 March 2019, approved the continuation of the Biomedical Research Career Programme beyond its initial 10-year term from 2008-09 to 2018-19 to a new five-year phase from 2019-20 to 2023-24. The programme is run by the Department of Biotechnology and UK- based biomedical research charity – Wellcome Trust. With the extension, the DBT would be increasing its commitment to the programme by two times, in comparison to that of the Welcome Trust.

The Union Cabinet on 27 March 2019 gave its ex-post facto approval to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Croatia in the field of tourism. The Union Cabinet was apprised about an MoU signed in February 2019 between India and Argentine on Antarctic cooperation. The agreement will help scientific cooperation on projects in the fields of earth sciences, as well as those related to the protection and conservation of the natural environment of Antarctica and the Southern Oceans.

The Union Cabinet was apprised about an MoU signed in February 2019 on youth matters between India and Morocco. The objective of the MoU is to strengthen and encourage cooperation between the two countries on youth matters through participation in events and activities, information and knowledge sharing and youth exchanges.

The Union Cabinet was apprised about an MoU signed in February 2019 between India and Saudi Arabia for cooperation in the field of Housing. The agreement will promote technical cooperation in the field of housing, including affordable and low-income housing and enhance the participation of authorities and companies in the housing and infrastructure projects undertaken in both countries.
