Dasari Narayana Rao passed away at a hospital in Hyderabad. He was on ventilator support and was supposed to go for a chest surgery. The 75-year-old director had won multiple National Awards and also made films in Bollywood.He is survived by his two sons and a daughter.KIMS hospital chief operating officer Dr Aloke C Mullick announced that Rao passed away at 7 pm on 30 May 2017 to sudden cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment.
Rao was born on May 4, 1942 in Palacol of West Godavari district. He took to acting from his college days and won several awards for his stage performances.He earned place in the Limca Book of World Records as a renowned director who had directed the largest number of films. He directed 151 and produced 53 films besides providing dialogues, screenplay and songs for many films. He acted in Tamil and Kannada films also. Erra Bus was the last film he had directed. He announced making a film on late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s life but it did not materialise.He was an active politician in the Congress party and served as a minister during the UPA-1 regime.Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, ESL Narasimhan, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, YSR Congress party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy among others condoled the death of Rao. Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed the government chief secretary to arrange for conduct of last rites at his farmhouse in Chevella at Hyderabad.
