World Press Freedom Day observed globally

World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO’s General Conference. Since then, 3 May, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day.In Liberia, the celebration of World Press Freedom Day for long time now has been aligned with the Universal theme, and commemorated with appropriate activities in the country side.As part of the World Press Freedom Day event, panel discussion will be held on the function of the National Media Council, successor of the Media Complaints Committee. Another session will be held to validate the 2017 Elections Reporting Guide for Liberian Journalists.The celebrations which has commenced with the launched of the National Media Council and will end at University of Liberia on May 3 after our traditional parade.The event started on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Police Academy in Paynesville with various sporting activities. On Sunday, April 30, 2017, intercessory worship service was held at the E. J. Goodridge UMC, Barnesville Estate.
